COCOTE

An evangelical Christian gardener named Alberto in the Dominican Republic returns to his hometown to attend the funeral of his father, who was murdered by a powerful local figure. In laying his father to rest, Alberto must participate in religious practices that conflict with his evangelical background. Cocote explores the limits between fantasy and reality; transitioning between the rural and urban landscapes. During the funerary rites lasting nine days, Alberto confronts questions of faith as pressure mounts to avenge his father’s murder.
